NICC outlines conditional return of Star Sydney casino licence by September-end

Licences & markets

New South Wales Independent Casino Commission Chief Commissioner Philip Crawford said the regulator was working on a plan to return control of The Star Sydney’s suspended casino licence to the company by the end of September. The proposed arrangement would include conditions and regulatory directions, with monitoring to continue before a suitability assessment that could take place in 12 or 18 months. The licence remains suspended and is held by government-appointed manager Nick Weeks.

The proposal could restore company control while keeping the casino under regulatory conditions and monitoring.

End-of-day close The Star Entertainment Group (SGR), AUD, to 16 October 2026
