New York lawmakers consider gambling billboard advertising ban

Regulation

New York lawmakers are considering two proposals to restrict gambling advertisements on billboards, reportedly covering casinos, sportsbooks, lotteries, fantasy sports and sweepstakes. One proposal would impose a direct ban, while the other would let existing campaigns run until their contracts expire and require public-service gambling-risk messages if replacement commercial advertising is not found. The New York State Gaming Commission, Department of Health and State Liquor Authority would share implementation and enforcement responsibilities under the direct-ban proposal.

The proposals could restrict outdoor advertising for gambling businesses and assign state agencies enforcement roles.
