Nederlandse Loterij sues Qbet operators over alleged unlicensed Dutch gambling

Enforcement & compliance

Nederlandse Loterij has started civil proceedings against the operators and directors of Qbet, seeking liability for alleged breaches of Dutch gambling rules. The action follows a €24.8m fine imposed on Novatech by the KSA in March for operating Qbet and 55Bet in the Netherlands without a licence; the lottery seeks to have the websites shut down.

The proceedings add civil liability and potential closure to the enforcement risks facing unlicensed operators in the Netherlands.
