NCPG calls for consumer protections across gambling and prediction products

Regulation

The National Council on Problem Gambling said entities offering gambling or functionally similar products should provide safeguards including self-exclusion, age verification and risk disclosures. Board president Derek Longmeier said users experience financial, emotional and relationship harms from prediction markets. Kalshi, whose membership in NCPG prompted criticism and withdrawals by other organisations, said it disagreed with NCPG’s assessment but welcomed dialogue.

Prediction market companies face calls for specific consumer safeguards amid disagreement over how their products should be treated.
