NBA restricts player prop bets for 2026-27 season with partner bookmakers

Regulation · SectorWire deskSource published 1 min read

The NBA has introduced new restrictions on player proposition bets offered by its authorised operators for the 2026-27 season, citing US media. The measures were communicated on 16 October 2026.

The rules bar combining several under outcomes on the statistics of a single player in one multiple bet. They also restrict under bets on players expected to be on court for fewer than 12 minutes.

Markets on first in-game actions are also limited. Operators will no longer be able to offer bets on who wins the opening tip, who scores the first basket, or who first records given statistics such as rebounds, assists, steals and blocks. Restrictions also apply to bets on whether a player misses a specific shot.

The NBA said the aim is to reduce opportunities to obtain winnings by exploiting below-expectation performances, particularly where a player's minutes can be limited deliberately. The measures extend restrictions the league has introduced in recent years, which also covered bets on fouls, turnovers and missed free throws. The league has not imposed a general ban on prop bets; the new rules are intended to exclude or limit specific markets considered more exposed to unlawful conduct.
