Jefferies analyst David Katz said casino investors should focus on operating efficiency, highlighting earnings per room at Las Vegas Strip operators. Wynn Resorts is expected to generate $180,000 in room-level EBITDA this year, compared with estimated figures of $83,000 for Caesars Entertainment and $77,000 for MGM Resorts International.
Analysts at Jefferies, Texas Capital Securities, J. P. Morgan and Truist Securities reviewed Las Vegas Sands, Boyd Gaming and Monarch Casino results in notes dated 20–27 July. Jefferies said Las Vegas Sands’ Macau EBITDA was 27% below its estimate on revenue 9% below; Boyd’s second-quarter EBITDAR beat one analyst’s forecast by 3%, while Monarch’s Q2 EBITDA fell slightly short.
Monarch Casino & Resort reportedly increased second-quarter net revenue by 4.2% to $142.6m. Net income for the period rose 20.4%.
Analysts at Truist Securities said regional-focused operators could outperform in second-quarter results, naming Penn Entertainment and Monarch Casino & Resort as potential beneficiaries. Jefferies analyst David Katz said gaming revenue across 18 reporting US states rose 3.8% year on year in the quarter, while Macquarie reported preliminary June US hotel revenue per available room growth of 8.7%.
J.P. Morgan and Bank of America analysts said first-quarter results will reflect weaker consumer sentiment and pressure on digital gaming from prediction markets. Bank of America reported gaming stocks down 6% for the year, with US operators up 1%, Macau operators down 14% and digital and online gaming stocks down 36%.
