The Missouri Gaming Commission rejected the NCAA’s request to restrict bets on college athletes, saying it wanted more information less than two months after sports betting launched in the state. The commission left open the possibility of revisiting the issue as the market develops; Missouri currently bars prop bets involving its college teams but permits them for other collegiate games.
The NCAA asked state gambling regulators on 15 January to restrict individual college-athlete prop bets and certain game markets. The association cited integrity concerns following federal charges against 26 people in a basketball bribery and point-shaving scheme, and said its enforcement staff had opened investigations into 40 athletes at 20 schools over the past year.
Louisiana State Senator Katrina Jackson-Andrews withdrew a bill to prohibit proposition bets and in-game micro wagers during a legislative hearing. Legislative analysts estimated the ban could cut more than $20 million from the state budget and a further $17 million from education, healthcare and sports funding combined; Jackson-Andrews said she may revisit the issue in a future session.
