Mississippi senators propose felony penalties for online sweepstakes gambling

Regulation

Mississippi senators Joey Fillingane and David Blount introduced SB 2104 to add online sweepstakes games to the state’s definition of illegal gaming devices. The proposal would prohibit the platforms and make operating or promoting them a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and fines of up to $100,000. It was referred to the Senate Judiciary Division B Committee; if enacted, it would take effect on 1 July 2026.

The bill would expose sweepstakes platform operators and promoters in Mississippi to criminal penalties if it becomes law.
