MGA completes consultation on Recognition Notice framework revisions

The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has completed its assessment of responses to its consultation on updating the Recognition Notice (RN) Framework, the regulator said. The framework governs the MGA's recognition of certain gaming authorisations issued in other jurisdictions. The MGA said it had reviewed the submissions made by interested parties and thanked operators and other participants for their contribution to the review process.

According to the MGA, the consultation allowed it to examine both the approach of the proposed changes and their possible operational implications. The observations received led to a series of refinements intended to keep the framework up to date, proportionate, based on risk assessment and practically applicable for Recognition Notice holders.

The Recognition Notice is a tool through which the MGA can recognise, under the conditions set out in its own legal order, certain authorisations issued by foreign authorities. The mechanism is therefore of particular relevance to international operators active in the gaming sector within the Maltese regulatory system.

At the close of the consultation, the MGA prepared a Feedback Statement summarising the observations received, the positions taken by the authority and the next steps planned. The document was sent to Recognition Notice holders and their representatives. The MGA said it will provide further information at a later stage on the practical application of specific requirements under the updated framework.
