Mendoza, San Juan and San Luis signed an agreement to make voluntary gambling self-exclusions apply across all three Argentine provinces, according to the report. The system will cover physical casinos and authorised online platforms, and the regulators have up to 120 days to integrate their systems and implement secure information sharing.
Mendoza, San Juan and San Luis have signed an interprovincial agreement on voluntary gambling self-exclusion in Argentina. Under the agreement, a person who voluntarily asks to be restricted from gambling in one of the provinces will also be covered by that restriction in the other two.
The measure will apply to physical gambling venues and to online platforms authorised in the three jurisdictions. Self-exclusions formalised from the signing of the agreement will be valid in all three provinces. People already entered in the provincial registers will be able to join the new regional system voluntarily. A person who requests self-exclusion in Mendoza will also be unable to enter casinos in San Juan and San Luis.
The agreement was signed by Ida López, president of the Instituto Provincial de Juegos y Casinos of Mendoza, Juan Pablo Medina, president of San Juan's Caja de Acción Social, and Héctor Rodolfo Mazzina, director of San Luis's Caja Social y Financiera.
The authorities set a maximum period of 120 days to put the mechanism into operation. During that period, the bodies are to integrate their systems technologically and put in place procedures for the secure exchange of information.
According to the authorities, the aim is to prevent voluntarily requested restrictions from losing effect when a person moves to another jurisdiction. The authorities also said no earlier agreement had linked the self-exclusion systems of different provinces.
López also highlighted the work of the Mendoza body's Responsible Gambling Programme, which includes prevention and assistance measures. Medina said the initiative could probably be replicated in other regions of the country. Mazzina said the agreement leaves open the possibility for other districts and jurisdictions to join.
