Massachusetts lawmakers approve historical horse racing licences for two venues
The Massachusetts House approved historical horse racing licences for Suffolk Downs and Raynham Park in July, according to the report. Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe chairman Brian Weeden and the state’s three regulated gambling centres opposed the measure, arguing the terminals resemble slot machines and could weaken existing protections and competition. Supporters say the proposal could create 1,200 jobs and contribute more than $100 million annually to a state health fund.
The proposal could expand gambling competition for licensed Massachusetts venues while drawing objections over regulatory protections and tribal sovereignty.
