Massachusetts Gaming Commission provides researchers access to casino player data
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission made a portal available on 10 July for approved researchers to request casino player data with personal identifiers removed, spokesperson Thomas Mills said. The Public Health Advocacy Institute withdrew its 2024 lawsuit after the commission began complying with the state law, while PHAI director Mark Gottlieb said the law does not impose comparable data-sharing duties on sports betting operators. A bill before the legislature would extend those duties to sportsbooks.
The portal resolves the lawsuit over casino data, while proposed legislation could add sportsbook data-sharing obligations.
