Massachusetts Gaming Commission approves eight penalties for betting operators

Enforcement & compliance

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission approved eight civil administrative penalties against five sports betting operators for wagers on prohibited markets. The penalties covered collegiate prop bets, award markets and bets on Russian athletes; individual penalties ranged from $5,000 to $20,000. Commissioner Eileen O’Brien supported all eight decisions but said some cases could have warranted higher penalties.

The decisions reinforce restrictions on sports betting markets and expose operators to penalties for compliance failures.
