Maryland commission warns gambling operators over prediction markets
Maryland’s Lottery and Gaming Control Commission warned licensed gambling operators on 20 November that prediction-market activity could affect their regulatory standing. The commission said offering sports-event contracts without a Maryland sports wagering licence constitutes illegal wagering, and that involvement elsewhere in the US could also affect a company’s Maryland licence. Its warning covered casinos, online sportsbooks and daily fantasy sports operators.
Operators must assess whether prediction-market activity in any US jurisdiction could put their Maryland licences at risk.
