Maryland commission warns gambling licensees over sports prediction markets

Regulation

Maryland’s Lottery and Gaming Control Commission warned casino, sports wagering and fantasy contest licensees that involvement with certain sports event contracts on CFTC-regulated exchanges may constitute unlicensed wagering under state law. The commission said such activity could affect license qualifications and asked licensees pursuing involvement with an exchange or designated contract market to notify it promptly.

The warning signals that licensees’ links to sports prediction markets may affect their Maryland licensing status.
