Malaysia Finance Ministry denies issuing new gambling licences

Regulation

Malaysia’s Finance Ministry said it had issued no new gambling licences or permits and had not authorised new pool betting or lottery outlets. It said existing licences date from approvals granted in the 1990s, and that special lottery draws have been reduced from 22 a year to eight. The statement responded to claims by Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.

The ministry’s position clarifies that federal licensing and outlet numbers have not expanded.
