Las Vegas defendant challenges alleged $8m illegal betting case

Enforcement & compliance

A 57-year-old Las Vegas man is contesting felony charges over an alleged sports betting operation involving about $8 million in wagers at Nevada sportsbooks and an offshore website. His lawyer argues that law enforcement's payment of between $5,000 and $6,000 to an undercover witness raises entrapment concerns; prosecutors say compensating confidential sources is not unusual.

The case concerns alleged illegal betting activity and the use of paid undercover witnesses in its investigation.
