Korea Casino Association opposes proposed tourism levy increase and five-year renewals
The Korea Casino Association called on South Korea to withdraw proposals to raise the tourism fund contribution ceiling for foreigner-only casinos from 10% to 15% and introduce five-year licence renewals. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said the higher rate would apply only to a new revenue bracket, yet to be determined, and rejected estimates of KRW90 billion in additional payments. The proposals are due for discussion at a National Assembly forum on 23 July.
The proposals could change casino contribution costs and licence terms, affecting operators’ investment and financing plans.
