Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism said the MGM Osaka casino resort remains compliant with its approved development plan. As the project moves towards its planned 2030 opening, the ministry called for consumer-demand estimates and plans for reinvestment.
The ministry’s requests add planning requirements for the resort’s promoters ahead of its planned opening.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission announced its Bet on Respect initiative in Massachusetts on 31 August 2026. It will investigate suspected harassment connected to sports wagering, and people found responsible may face involuntary exclusion from sports wagering and casinos under state law and regulation 205 CMR 152. The commission also opened a reporting portal for leagues, players’ associations, college athletics programmes, venues and players.
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission reported that the state’s three casinos generated approximately $97.36m in gross gaming revenue in June 2026. The commission also reported approximately $54.32m in taxable sports wagering revenue across seven online and three in-person licensees.
Osaka Prefecture officials said they plan to allocate about ¥1.4 billion a year to gambling addiction measures, using part of entrance-fee and table revenue from the planned MGM Osaka resort. The project is due to open in 2030, and officials said its operators would not attend future public briefing sessions.
Osaka Prefecture and the developers of MGM Osaka warned the public in Japan against gambling websites claiming links to the resort, according to a joint statement reported by media. They said MGM Osaka does not offer, promote or advertise online casinos and urged people to avoid the sites.
South Korean casino operators and tourism academics called for lighter administrative requirements and industry rebranding at a Seoul roundtable, citing concern that MGM Osaka could draw tourists and investment away from Korea. The Osaka resort is expected to open in 2030; estimates cited at the discussion put annual visitors at 7.6 million and overseas visitor spending at $1.9 billion.
