Kangwon Land targets KRW3tn annual revenue under revised strategy

A revised management strategy won board approval on Tuesday at Kangwon Land, which now targets KRW3 trillion (US$2.26 billion) in yearly revenue across its resort. The South Korean venue is described as "the country’s only casino where locals can gamble". Better customer satisfaction, sustainability and a larger contribution to the local economy are also goals, the Tuesday announcement stated.
The company's earlier 2030 strategy is superseded by the Mid-to-Long-Term Management Strategy for 2027 to 2031. With Kim Do-gyun newly installed as CEO, the plan pushes the longer-term horizon out to 2035 and restructures the company's vision, values, objectives and strategic tasks.
Securing future growth engines and reinforcing the company's public-institution duties form the core of the plan, which also envisages a management system built around execution. Under the new vision statement, the company combines the aims of international integrated resorts with a public service role, offering entertainment to customers while benefiting the local community.
Respect, Safety, Ethics, Pragmatism and Challenge have given way to Happiness, Mutual Growth, Innovation and Responsibility as the company's core values. According to the company, the revised set reflects its commitment to giving clients distinctive experiences via tourism and to creating new growth opportunities in the local community, while innovation and accountability are expected to support sustainable management.
That yearly figure would mark a large jump from where revenue stands now. For the second quarter of 2026, Kangwon Land posted revenue of KRW345.6 billion (US$243 million), a 4.2% fall year-on-year, with fewer casino visitors among the causes. Renovation work across the integrated resort also cut into hotel room revenue, weighing on the quarter's performance.
A US$1.9 billion redevelopment is under way at the property, with the aim of turning Kangwon Land into a destination that draws an international audience. The work runs in parallel with the revised management strategy, as the company seeks broader appeal while upgrading the resort.
