Kalshi sues Utah governor and attorney general over sports prediction markets

Regulation

Kalshi sued Utah Governor Spencer Cox, Attorney General Derek Brown and others in the attorney general’s office over the state’s efforts to restrict its sports prediction markets. The company argued that state regulation is pre-empted by federal law and asked a court for preliminary and permanent injunctions and declaratory relief; Cox has said he will defend Utah’s laws.

The lawsuit challenges Utah’s authority to restrict sports prediction markets against Kalshi’s federal-law argument.
