In brief

  • Italy's 2027 budget law reportedly adds a fifth weekly Lotto and SuperEnalotto draw, on Wednesdays.
  • Estimated extra state revenue is €30.5m in 2027 and €43.1m from 2028.
  • The draw will also cover optional and complementary games.

Italy's 2027 budget law reportedly introduces a fifth weekly draw for Lotto and SuperEnalotto, set for Wednesdays. The financial effects are estimated at €30.5m in additional state revenue for 2027 and €43.1m from 2028. The new draw will also cover optional and complementary games.

The choice of Wednesday rests on ministerial decree no. 214 of 3 December 2025, and the source says it is to be defined within "sessanta giorni" of the rule taking effect. Technical preparation for the fifth draw of Lotto and SuperEnalotto is put at roughly 5 weeks, running from the adoption of the directorial provision that calls it.

The fourth additional draw was established in 2023 and confirmed from 2025 by article 1, paragraph 94 of law no. 207 of 30 December 2024. That introduction led to an increase in collection of about €135m, a rise of more than 6%. For the fifth draw, the estimate assumes a 5% rise in collection compared with 2025, before allowing for play shifting from other draw days. After allowing for that shift, the estimate puts additional collection at 4% compared with 2025 for both Lotto and SuperEnalotto.

FEBRALOT seeks participation in Brazil Supreme Court lottery hearing

FEBRALOT asked Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court to admit it as an amicus curiae in ADI 8.027 and, if feasible, let it take part in a public hearing scheduled for 3 November. The federation said the deadline for submitting representatives’ details had passed, and asked the court to consider its written submission if it could not attend.

Direct Action of Unconstitutionality no 8.027 is pending before the Supreme Federal Court, and FEBRALOT, the Brazilian Federation of Lottery Companies, hopes to take part in the debate on it. The entity has asked rapporteur Luiz Fux to admit it as amicus curiae. It also asks, as an exception, for authorisation to attend the public hearing foreseen for 3 November. The federation acknowledges that the deadline for sending the names and powers of attorney of the participating entities' representatives ended at 15h on 29 October. Because of that, it asks that its participation count only if it is still operationally feasible, and at the rapporteur's discretion. If attending the hearing is not possible, the federation wants its written statement and documents to be received, without prejudice to the review of the amicus curiae admission request.
