Ireland leaves online gambling levy out of initial EU budget framework
Ireland’s first framework for the EU’s 2028-2034 budget excludes a proposed common levy on online gambling revenue. The 1% levy on licensed gambling revenue was proposed by Romania’s Victor Negrescu and the Socialists and Democrats group, while Ireland’s draft sets a spending ceiling of €1.62trn in constant 2025 prices; member states will negotiate the figures.
The omission leaves the proposed EU-wide tax outside the initial budget framework, although member-state negotiations continue.
