Hungarian government reviews whether to dissolve gambling regulator SZTFH

Regulation

The Hungarian government has asked its justice minister to assess whether to terminate the Supervisory Authority for Regulated Activities (SZTFH) and transfer its duties to other government bodies. A resolution published on 31 August gives the minister until 30 September to report. The review follows the grant of a 35-year Sopron casino concession to CAI Hungary Kft without a public tender; SZTFH said it would cooperate and defended its independence.

A possible transfer of gambling oversight could change the regulatory structure for operators in Hungary.
