House Rules Committee blocks FAIR BET Act amendment to defence bill

Regulation

The House Rules Committee did not advance the FAIR BET Act for inclusion in the National Defense Authorization Act, according to the report. The bill, backed by Representative Dina Titus, sought to restore full deductions for gambling losses; a 2026 tax rule instead limits deductions to 90% of losses. The committee said the amendment did not fit the defence bill’s purpose and could reduce federal revenue.

The stalled bill leaves the 90% cap on gambling-loss deductions in place for the 2026 tax year.
