Holland Casino starts preparatory works for new Groningen site along A7

Preparatory works have begun at Businesspark Ter Borch along the A7 for a new Holland Casino Groningen branch, the contractor Dijkstra Draisma confirmed. The construction group is responsible for the build and said the preparations are under way.

Actual construction is scheduled to start in October 2026 and, according to the contractor's planning, the works will run until March 2028. An opening in 2028 is now expected.

The new casino is to be built at Businesspark Ter Borch in the municipality of Tynaarlo. Holland Casino announced in 2023 that it had chosen this location. The branch was initially due to open in 2027, but that planning later proved unachievable.

The building will have a floor area of about 4,660 square metres. The design comes from the Groningen architecture firm De Architecten van Team 4, and the building will have a silver-grey three-dimensional facade.

Holland Casino Groningen has been housed in a temporary branch at Sontplein since the end of 2018. That location opened after the original casino at Gedempte Kattendiep was completely destroyed by a large fire in August 2017.

The first images of the new branch were released at the end of 2025. Architect Sjoerd Betten of De Architecten van Team 4 said at the time that the expectation was that the first stone would be laid in the autumn of 2026.
