Deals & M&A1 min read

Holland Casino has begun building a new casino at Businesspark Ter Borch in Groningen, the company said. The venue will replace its previous property, destroyed by fire in 2017; Holland Casino selected the site in 2023.

Holland Casino has started construction of a new casino in Groningen, at Businesspark Ter Borch beside the A7 motorway. The development will permanently replace the operator's previous property, which a fire destroyed in 2017.

Petra de Ruiter, who is CEO of Holland Casino, and Tynaarlo Mayor Marcel Thijsen joined employees and construction partners at the ceremony. Richard van den Broek, a long-serving Holland Casino employee, took part in the official ceremony with De Ruiter and Thijsen.

Plans for the new building emphasise environmental sustainability, ease of access and up-to-date gaming areas. The company expects the casino to reinforce its footprint in the northern Netherlands and back its operations in the region. Because the site lies next to the A7, visitors from Groningen, Drenthe and nearby areas are expected to reach it easily.

Holland Casino, which is state-owned, runs the regulated casino market in the Netherlands. Groningen has had no permanent venue of the company since the 2017 fire. In 2023, the company chose Businesspark Ter Borch as its preferred relocation site.
