Heijnen rejects differentiated gambling tax rates in the Netherlands

Regulation

Dutch state secretary Eugène Heijnen said differentiated gambling tax rates remained unsuitable, according to the report. He cited concerns that the approach would conflict with gambling policy, complicate tax administration and would not guarantee higher payments to good causes. He said the effects of the tax increase on sport and good causes would be monitored, with an update to parliament due in the second quarter of 2026.

The position rules out tax-rate differentiation while the effects of the increase remain under review.
