H2 projects UK illegal online gambling stakes will exceed £33bn by 2028
H2 Gambling Capital forecasts that illegal operators will take 19.2% of UK online betting and gaming stakes by 2028. It projects those stakes will rise from £17 billion in 2025 to more than £33 billion in 2028; the Betting and Gaming Council cited the figures ahead of a Gambling Commission board meeting on financial risk assessments. The BGC warned that higher taxes and regulatory requirements could shift customers to unregulated sites.
The forecast bears on operators’ exposure to proposed financial checks and the risk of customers moving to unregulated sites.
