GR8_TECH report examines Brazil market after September betting ban

Regulation · SectorWire deskSource published 2 min read

GR8_TECH has published a report, Operator Lens: Brazil, on the consequences of Brazil's nationwide betting ban, which was introduced on 25 September 2026. The report covers enforcement, player behaviour, payments and licensing and compliance, and sets out three possible paths for the market.

The report states that 16,627 gambling-related websites were put forward for blocking by Brazilian authorities in the period from 25 September to 9 October. Over the same window, officials asked for 3,691 pages, profiles and channels on social media and messaging platforms to be taken down. According to research the report cites, three in four Brazilian bettors had placed at least one bet on an unauthorised site during 2025.

Surveyed bettors named traditional sports as their preference in 70 per cent of cases, the report says, and 40 per cent expressed interest in esports. Among casino games, half of preferences went to slots, a quarter to crash and instant games, and 24 per cent to live dealer titles. In September 2026, roughly 63 per cent of web traffic came through mobile devices.

Three outcomes are set out in the report for Brazil's market. One is that the prohibition stays in force for good; another is that it is withdrawn or revised; the third is that judges block parts of it. The report also looks at the steps operators would need to take on shutting down, issuing refunds, reporting and payments.

According to GR8_TECH, the ban leaves more unanswered questions than resolved ones. The company has scheduled a private workshop for operators only, titled The Locker Room: Brazil After the Ban, for 29 October, with Yevhen Krazhan, CSO at GR8_TECH, leading it. GR8_TECH describes the session as a discussion of the difficulties, scenarios and concrete steps ahead for operators working in Brazil.
