ANESAR technical secretary general Juan Lacarra called for consistent regulatory principles across gambling operators in Spain, according to a report of his radio interview. He cited about 3,600 gaming halls, more than 36,000 machines and around 47,000 direct and indirect jobs, and said about 240 halls had closed over the previous two or three years. Lacarra also argued that state initiatives should respect regional powers over land-based gambling.
ANESAR's technical secretary general, Juan Lacarra, used an interview on COPE Aragón to set out the scale of Spain's private land-based gambling sector and to argue that all operators in the market should compete under the same regulatory criteria. He said the association was not seeking privileges or questioning the role of any operator, and that basic rules and regulatory principles should apply coherently across the whole market if the aim is to protect consumers while allowing companies to develop in a balanced way. He argued it was necessary to examine whether a real balance exists, particularly on advertising, sponsorship, commercialisation and access controls.
