Regulation · SectorWire deskSource published

Source: GGL (Germany) ·

Summary

Germany's GGL has published an information page on money-laundering prevention and suspicious-activity reporting in the gambling sector. The authority says illegal gambling carries a particularly high laundering risk because deposits, payouts and player identity checks are not supervised. It cites penalties of up to five years' imprisonment, or 10 in serious cases, under section 261 of the criminal code.

Why it matters

Operators must run risk analyses, identify customers and report suspected laundering to the FIU, with EU anti-money-laundering rules applying from 10 July 2027.
