The Xunta de Galicia has opened a public consultation on the draft Plan for the Prevention of Addictive Behaviours 2026-2030. The draft was approved for this procedure by the Consello da Xunta, according to the regional government. Citizens, organisations and professionals can submit suggestions and observations through the Xunta's Transparency Portal before the document receives final approval.

The plan brings land-based and online gambling into the concept of addictive behaviours for the first time. It sets out measures including awareness campaigns, training programmes for professionals and specialist staff, and monitoring. It also proposes closer coordination between health, education, social services, the workplace and the community.

The strategy updates Galicia's previous plan on addictive disorders using new data, including the ESTUDES 2025 and EDADES 2024 surveys. The update adds problematic screen use and issues related to new technologies.

The number of people registered to self-exclude from online gambling in Galicia has risen in recent years. According to data published in January, registrations in the General Registry of Gambling Access Bans (RGIAJ) in the region increased 75% over the last five years, from 1,392 people in 2020 to 2,457 at the end of 2025.

Despite that increase, Galicia's share of the national total fell. The region went from 2.47% to 2.13% of all people registered in Spain, a national total of 115,556.
