France’s DGCCRF and ANJ warn about sports-betting tip promotions

Regulation

France’s DGCCRF and ANJ urged consumers to be cautious of sports-betting tips promoted online and on social media ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The authorities said claims that paid or free tips improve the chance of winning may be misleading, and noted that influencer promotion of tip subscriptions has been prohibited since a 2023 law. The DGCCRF inspected 19 entities in 2024, while several criminal proceedings remain under way.

The warning and ongoing proceedings affect marketing practices for betting-tip services and their promotion by influencers.

The survey combined quantitative and qualitative data on the behaviour, motivations and perceptions of French adolescents towards games that sit between video games and gambling, and on the risks associated with them.
