Evidentia AI completes four-week betting-market pilot in South Sudan

Deals & M&A2 min read

In brief

  • The company said the review involved no system integration, operator-system access, official records or transactions.
  • The Department said it will consider the findings carefully in line with its mandate.

Evidentia AI, a company working on gaming revenue intelligence and compliance monitoring, has finished a four-week review of the betting market in South Sudan. The firm then handed its results to the Department of Betting, Gaming and Lotteries, which sits under the Ministry of Finance and Planning. No system integration was needed for the review, and the company says every observation was checked against the live source.

The company states that operator systems were not accessed, official records were not used and no transactions took place. Because of how the engagement was structured, the detailed results went straight to the Department and stay there.

Ajibola Abdulkadir, Commercial Director at Evidentia AI, commended the Department for Betting, Gaming and Lotteries for commissioning an independent, evidence-based view of its market, describing it as "an important step towards modern, data-driven regulation." In her view, the review supplies the Government with a clear picture of the operators in the market, the payment methods players use and the points where oversight can be most effective. She noted that the findings belong to the Department, which will decide how the data is used.

Daniel Apuk Deng Reech, Director for Betting, Gaming and Lotteries at the Ministry of Finance and Planning, said the Department sees the pilot as "a practical first step in strengthening oversight of the betting sector." He said the findings will be studied carefully within the Department's mandate, and that it stays committed to a transparent, accountable and well-regulated sector serving the public interest.

According to the company, the pilot was built to address concerns about data sovereignty, vendor independence and privacy, as well as the need to balance oversight with market growth. These issues are central as African governments look at how digital tools can back oversight, boost compliance and safeguard public revenue without overburdening legitimate businesses.

“The Department values this pilot as a practical first step in strengthening oversight of the betting sector. We will consider the findings carefully, in line with our mandate, and we remain committed to a transparent, accountable and well-regulated sector that serves the public interest”
