European countries consider or maintain restrictions on betting advertising

Regulation

European countries are applying differing restrictions to sports betting advertising, while France’s lawmakers proposed further limits in a bill introduced in June 2026, according to the report. The proposal would ban betting adverts during broadcasts, restrict their timing and prohibit the use of public figures and influencers; existing rules vary across France, Germany, the UK, Belgium, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands.

Operators and media carrying betting adverts face materially different restrictions across the European markets described.
