Dutch MPs propose operator fines of up to 100% of annual turnover

Regulation

Dutch MPs Mirjam Bikker and Sarah Dobbe proposed legislation that would allow the Netherlands Gambling Authority to fine an operator up to 100% of its annual turnover. The proposal also calls for immediate shutdowns of illegal platforms, fewer gambling advertisements and changes to the Cruks self-exclusion system. Licensed-operator group VNLOK and KSA chairman Michel Groothuizen have warned that severe advertising restrictions could make legal operators harder to identify.

The proposed fine ceiling and advertising restrictions could materially change compliance exposure for licensed operators.
