Dutch gambling tax rise yields €2m extra in 2025, far below forecast

Regulation · SectorWire deskSource published

Summary

The Netherlands' gambling tax increases generated about €2m in additional revenue in 2025 and an estimated €57m in 2026, well short of government forecasts, according to a joint monitoring report by the Ministry of Finance and regulator KSA. The tax rose from 30.5% to 34.2% on 1 January 2025 and to 37.8% on 1 January 2026.

Why it matters

Lower-than-forecast receipts and a shrinking tax base weaken the case for further Dutch tax rises on licensed operators.
