DGOJ fines SELAE €75,600 over play by four self-excluded users

Enforcement & compliance

Spain’s DGOJ fined SELAE €75,600 after four people registered in the RGIAJ self-exclusion register played with real money, according to a media report. The report says a technical incident led to 5,556 removal requests reaching the DGOJ in June 2024, while the users remained active on SELAE’s platform; SELAE attributed the problem to a technical failure.

The case concerns access controls for self-excluded users on a state lottery operator’s platform.

The ASA said the ad must not appear for that search again and told Optival to ensure future search ads are responsibly targeted.
