Chile’s SII expects online betting VAT to raise over $100 million annually

Regulation

Chile’s Internal Revenue Service (SII) expects VAT on foreign online betting, casino and gaming services to generate more than $100 million a year, Director Jorge Trujillo said after Resolution No. 69 of 2026 introduced an operator registration scheme. The SII said the measure concerns tax collection only and does not authorise online betting; a lawmaker criticised the approach as inconsistent with treating the activity as illegal.

VAT obligations apply to foreign betting services without granting operators authorisation to offer them in Chile.
