Chile's Liga Nacional de Básquetbol (LNB) provisionally suspended Stan Scott, a US player with ABA Ancud, over his alleged links to a sports betting network, the LNB said in a statement on its social media accounts. The LNB said it had taken the corresponding measures to give immediate effect to the provisional suspension. The case concerns alleged events during Scott's time at Rio Claro, a club in Brazil's First Division, according to local media reports cited in the source.
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) notified FEBA Chile that a disciplinary procedure had been opened, and the Chilean federation took steps to make the sanction effective as soon as possible. The LNB said the case is under investigation and follows the procedure set by FIBA to clarify the facts. It rejected any conduct that undermines the integrity and legitimacy of the game and said it would keep strengthening its mechanisms for prevention, detection and action against possible irregularities, while safeguarding due process and the rights of those involved.
ABA Ancud confirmed the provisional suspension of Scott and said the measure follows the opening of a disciplinary procedure whose facts are confidential. The club said the origin of the matter is strictly unrelated both to ABA Ancud and to the current season's competition, and that the player is leaving the institution.
