Chicago committee advances sweepstakes gambling machine ban

Regulation

Chicago’s Committee on License and Consumer Protection advanced an ordinance to ban sweepstakes gambling terminals, sending it to the full City Council for consideration. The proposal would set fines of $1,000 to $2,000 per machine and allow business licence suspension or revocation for repeat violations. It would take effect 10 days after final approval.

Operators of targeted machines could face per-machine fines and loss of their business licences if the proposal becomes law.
