Catena Media has invested in Collectbase Inc., the parent company of Repackz, through its new venture arm. The investment also includes Collectibles.com. Catena Media said the partnership will see it introduce Repackz, which it describes as a digital gaming entity based on physical trading cards, to its partner operators and publishers.

“This investment is a further step in diversifying our revenue streams. Repackz has built a proven product that leading operators are already taking live, and we see a significant opportunity in bringing it to many more. Through Catena Growth Ventures , we contribute capital, operator relationships, and distribution.”

Manuel Stan, Catena CEO

Repackz operates in a vertical called "rips", which the report describes as emerging in the US. Catena Media said the investment is a further step in diversifying its revenue streams, and that Repackz has a product that operators are already taking live. The company said that through Catena Growth Ventures it contributes capital, operator relationships and distribution.

Dietrich von Behren, co-founder and chief business and strategy officer at Collectbase, said Repackz gives operators and brands a way to present genuine, professionally graded collectibles to their customers while trading under their own brand, and that the platform takes care of procurement, secure storage and order processing on their behalf. He also remarked that Catena Media's know-how would clearly help drive the company's continued expansion.

The report says Catena Media has faced operational setbacks from changing algorithms and marketing in traditional iGaming and is seeking alternative revenue sources, with rips as one opportunity. It adds that rips has so far not matched the success of prediction markets or sweepstakes online casinos.
