Javier García, a representative of land-based casinos in Castilla y León, called for collaboration between the regional administration and gambling companies. He made the remarks ahead of the XIX Congreso de Juego de Castilla y León, held on 20 and 21 October in Soria, according to a report attributed to García.
García said land-based gambling was subject to a high degree of administrative intervention, which he considered justified by the need to protect vulnerable groups. He argued that cooperation between authorities and operators was essential to guarantee the activity's operation, and called for a fluid relationship between the two sides, in line with the collaboration he said had existed until then with the Junta de Castilla y León.
He also cited the loyalty of both businesses and institutions as a basis for further progress, and defended holding this kind of meeting to make the reality of land-based gambling known and bring it closer to society. In his view, the sector had at times been demonised without objective justification, and he considered it necessary to create spaces for dialogue in which its activity and characteristics could be explained.
García described the continuation of the congress, now in its 19th edition, as a positive sign of the forum's consolidation and of its usefulness in encouraging the exchange of experiences between the sector and public administrations.
