Cardia criticises Italy’s 2027 budget treatment of retail gambling

Regulation

Geronimo Cardia, president of Acadi-Confcommercio, criticised the proposed 2027 budget at the SiGMA World panel in Rome, saying it disadvantaged land-based gambling. He said retail generated 10,5 miliardi di euro of the sector’s 11,5 miliardi in tax revenue and employed 135mila workers; he also argued for regulating prediction markets.

The comments raise concerns about tax treatment and competitive conditions for Italy’s land-based gambling operators.
