In brief

  • The Canary Islands sent its 2027 draft budget to parliament on 30 October.
  • Gambling taxes are forecast at €69,002,033, up 6.7% on the adjusted 2026 budget.
  • Online gambling tax revenue rises 27.5% to €8,707,083; in-person fees rise 4.2% to €60,294,950.

The Canary Islands government sent its draft 2027 budget to the regional parliament on 30 October. The draft budget totals €13,209m. Gambling taxes in the draft come to €69,002,033, which is 6.7% more than the €64,674,787 in the adjusted 2026 budget. The project's economic and financial report puts gambling taxes at 2.82% of income in the indirect taxes chapter.

The largest increase is in the region's share of the gambling activity tax, which applies to online gambling. That share rises from €6,829,391 to €8,707,083, an increase of 27.5%. It accounts for 12.6% of what the Canary Islands collect from gambling but more than 43% of the forecast increase.

Fees on in-person gambling total €60,294,950, which is 4.2% more than in 2026 (€57,845,396). Amusement machines remain the main source at €36,347,778, up 3.5%. Bingo halls follow with €19,106,240, up 4.7%. Betting and random combinations account for €3,294,696, up 5.2%. Casinos account for €1,546,236, the largest rise among in-person gambling at 13.5%.

For most taxes, the forecast for the close of 2026 was projected linearly from collection up to 30 September. For bingo, the report treated it as necessary to keep the amount shown in the initial 2026 budget. The forecast evolution of private consumption is then applied to that base. The project includes a reduced rate of 5% for bets on indigenous and traditional Canary Islands sports and games. The report says it has no data with which to quantify the impact of that reduced rate.

Andalucía's draft budget forecasts growth of 17.9% in the online gambling tax and 0.8% in the in-person gambling fee.
