California DOJ seizes 26 Santa Anita betting machines

Regulation

California’s Department of Justice seized 26 machines at Santa Anita Park on 17 January, two days after their installation, and also took the cash inside. Santa Anita sued the department and Attorney General Rob Bonta, seeking the machines’ return and alleging officials had not disputed its legal analysis of bets on completed races. The department had not responded to the track’s account of the seizure in the report.

The seizure and lawsuit leave the legality of Santa Anita’s bets on completed races contested.
