Brazilian senator proposes 15% levy on betting deposits
Senator Alessandro Vieira proposed a 15% contribution on deposits to licensed betting operators through Brazil’s Anti-Contraband Bill, PL 5.582/2025. The article says the measure could affect sponsorship contracts and, if retained after further review in the Chamber of Deputies, generate up to R$30bn a year for the National Public Safety Fund. The IBJR opposes the proposal and warned it could strengthen illegal gambling.
Operators and clubs may need to reassess sponsorship terms if the proposed deposit levy advances.
