Brazilian minister Guilherme Boulos calls for a total betting ban

Regulation

Brazil’s Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency, Guilherme Boulos, called for a total ban on online betting during a broadcast on 12 May. He said existing regulation had not resolved problems and alleged that betting companies were involved in money laundering; his remarks contrast with federal agencies’ work to regulate and supervise the sector.

A proposed ban from a senior government minister signals political opposition to Brazil’s regulated betting framework.
