Brazilian labour minister calls for ban on betting to protect workers

Regulation

Brazil’s labour minister Luiz Marinho called for a ban on betting in Brazil at an event in São Paulo on 4 August, saying gambling addiction harms workers. He said legislation would be needed and that Congress has authority to decide; he also cited workplace psychosocial-risk rules and ongoing discussions before enforcement under NR-1.

A proposed statutory ban could change the operating framework for betting companies in Brazil.
